Shunting signals

There are two types of shunting signals. Both have rectangular black base plates with a round top right corner.

Shunting signal aspects

PU or dwarf showing
WHITE DASH
»Passing disallowed«
PU or dwarf showing
WHITE SLASH
»Caution«
This aspect is shown when an active route passes the signal but the track ahead is not free. Bystanders most often see this aspect while vehicles are passing the signal - when the front of the train enters the next block the signal falls to Caution. When the last car leaves the prior block the route is withdrawn and the signal drops to Passing disallowed.
PU or dwarf showing
WHITE COLON
»Passing allowed«
Shown when an active route passes the signal and the track ahead is free.
PU or dwarf showing
WHITE BACKSLASH
»Signal cancelled«
Trains may proceed as if the signal were not present at all. This aspect is used for shunting movements without routes, e.g. remarshalling.
